What is Therapy Intensive Counseling in Virginia?

We often begin searching for mental health providers when we hit a wall in our personal lives and we want to overcome it fast. There’s something about having a moment of clarity and realizing exactly what is going wrong in your life that can create a sense of urgency with regard to your healing.

The challenge is just because you suddenly feel ready to get into the change work and do something to transform your situation, doesn’t mean you know exactly where to start or who to go to for help. You may even start combing through Google and sending out mass messages to any therapist you can find online, in the hopes that you’ll find your way to someone’s chair in the near future.

But what if the search becomes longer, more drawn out, and more confusing than you ever expected? What if your previous therapist or your preferred counselor is out on leave or has to put you on a waitlist, but you’re dying for a change right now?

Considering Therapy Intensive Counseling in Virginia

Maintaining the motivation to change can be really tough when you’re hit with new fears and reasons to maintain the status quo with each day that passes. There is genuine value to ‘striking while the iron is hot’ in order to take full advantage of those moldable moments in one’s life. So how do you do that in a world where there is so much difficulty in accessing meaningful healthcare in a time-sensitive manner?

Therapy Intensives can provide a great solution in this case, and I’ll tell you exactly why. With a Therapy Intensive, you can move to the top of the waitlist, essentially skipping the line in order to begin meeting with your therapist and working on your desired transformation. This means cutting out 3, 6, or even 12 months of waiting for the best therapist, given that so many sought-after therapists have no current openings to take on weekly clients.

Going in this unique direction also means that you can receive extended and focused time with your therapist, who is (hopefully!) using well-researched and evidence-based therapy techniques that have the power to move you further along in your healing journey, in a shorter amount of time.

How Therapy Intensive Counseling is Different

An intensive is basically the crème de la crème of mental health services because the time in session is laser-focused on your obstacles to emotional freedom, and allows you to deepen your insight into yourself and why you function the way that you do. What a relief to finally gain this understanding of yourself, in a similar amount of time to what it takes for you to go watch the latest “must-see” movie! Except, in the case of an intensive, what you experience during that time in session has the power to change the course of your life and your relationships.

This is why I like to call therapy intensives a “mini-retreat.” When you set aside 3 hours at a time to focus solely on yourself and what you want, you can enter a safe holding space to uncover what’s been blocking you from getting to your desired goals. Then you work with your counselor to confront and change those obstacles at the root, and further reinforce those changes in yourself so that you will think and operate differently from that point on.

In fact, depending on the types of retreats you’ve been on in the past, a therapy intensive is even better. There’s no need to spend time flying or driving, since you can work from the comfort and privacy of your own home. And the feel-good high you sometimes have from a regular retreat experience lasts much longer after a therapy intensive, since you are specifically targeting shifts in your internal operating system. This means your changes are long-lasting and have a positive cascading effect across various areas of your life. Plus, if you’re an introvert, or just not into having everyone in your business, processing distressing events or relationship patterns that you find somewhat embarrassing, is a lot easier to do when you’re not having to do repeated team-building exercises with random strangers.

If I sound passionate about this, it’s because I am! Existing in the world as a black woman who is obsessed with yoga and wellness and helping others, I get really excited about combining powerful tools together that can literally change people’s lives. The Transformation Therapy Intensive that I offer is born from these obsessions, and I am lucky to see the incredible impact it has on the clients who work with me.

Having options available for high-quality therapy services, like trauma-informed therapy intensives, is especially needed when clients aren’t always able to find a therapist who looks like them. These kinds of therapy services are rapidly growing, yet still very rare, and even more so if you are searching for African American counseling providers with whom to do the longer and more targeted therapy sessions.

While an Intensive is, well, intense! I move clients through the process in a way that is gentle and honors their inner wisdom. I trust that your heart and mind know exactly what you are ready to dive into and overcome at any given time. So there’s no need to force memory to the forefront of your mind to get relief; you don’t even need to have more than a felt sense that something went wrong at one time, in order to work through it in this kind of therapy session.

How can Therapy Intensive Resources help?

With the resources of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (eye movement therapy) to release the pain and shame of the past, Hypnotherapy to shift into a healthy and positive sense of self, Internal Family Systems to integrate the parts of you that appear self-sabotaging or broken, and Yoga to fully involve your body in the dynamic healing process, it’s almost impossible not to experience the change you are searching for!

Therapy Intensive Counseling in Virginia is a beautiful holding space for creating more love and more peace within yourself, though it may not be right for you if you are holding on to suffering for some kind of secondary gain. This might be wanting others to comfort you in your unhappiness or feeling afraid of what you might see inside yourself if you slowed down long enough to look inside (no judgment- as far as I can tell, everyone has been here at some point). But if you’re ready to dive into life with the confidence and joy that you’ve always dreamed of, don’t hesitate to invest in this life-altering experience for yourself!

How to get Started in Therapy Intensive Counseling in Virginia:

  1. First, you’ll schedule your consultation call with me to discuss your current needs and goals. If I believe a personal transformation intensive would be a good fit for you and I can assist you, I will inform you. However, if we decide that it is not a good fit, I will be happy to provide appropriate referrals.

  2. Second, we will arrange the date(s) for your intensive and I will send you an invitation to my secure client portal.

  3. Thirdly, you will receive an electronic intake packet and a deposit invoice, which you must complete within 48 hours to confirm your appointment.

  4. You will then need to prepare your therapy space. For most people, this involves choosing a location at home or work that will ensure minimal interruptions and where you can access reliable WiFi and a backup network signal in case your WiFi fails. Having a dependable set of headphones can also enhance sound quality and increase privacy during the intensive.

  5. Lastly, we will conduct your intake assessment appointment and provide you with a transformation-intensive workbook, if requested, to help you get ready for our focused time together.
